This is a non-teaching role that provides crucial technical and workshop support to staff and students. The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the workshops, including their resources and equipment, to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

This is a part-time, fixed term position currently 20 hours a week during the school term, concluding on the 15th December 2026.

In your day-to-day role, you will work closely with the Technology teaching team to prepare lesson materials and equipment, and to assist students with practical tasks under supervision. The role requires a strong focus on health and safety, as well as the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Key Responsibilities include…

  • Workshop Maintenance: Maintain and service hard materials workshop equipment.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure the workshop adheres to all health and safety guidelines, including the Ministry of Education's safety standards for technology education.
  • Purchasing: Prepare and manage materials, tools, and consumables for class use. Assist with ordering new supplies and conducting regular stocktakes.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical assistance to both teachers and students. This includes preparing materials, demonstrating the use of tools, and assisting with project setup.
  • Student Assistance: Assist students with their practical work during classes under the guidance of the teacher.
  • General Duties: Maintain the overall cleanliness and organisation of the workshop and storage areas.

Proven experience in a workshop or trade environment, with a focus on working with hard materials (e.g., wood, metal), would be an advantage. Our ideal candidate would be someone who is able to:

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of and commitment to workshop health and safety protocols.
  • Competence in using and maintaining workshop tools and machinery.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work well with young people in a school setting.
  • A relevant qualification in a trade or fabrication is desirable.
  • A positive attitude and ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

Depending on qualifications, skills, and experience, we have this role banded at Admin Matrix, Grade 3 or 4 on the Support Staff Collective Agreement.
