Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position

We are seeking a positive, flexible, and compassionate individual to join Ako and Advisory Haeamata across both campuses to provide wrap-around support for learners.  Walking alongside our Rangatahi, you will build strong relationships that foster trust and rapport.  By creating a safe and empowering environment, assist learners and encourage independence.   Your duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Assisting Kaiako (teachers) in delivering (planning) lessons and adapting materials to meet individual learning needs. 
  • Providing one-on-one or small group support to help our Rangatahi achieve their learning goals. 
  • Encouraging positive engagement by fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment. 
  • Monitoring progress, providing feedback to Kaiako, and keeping accurate records. 
  • Plan and support events such as prize-givings, whānau hui and noho marae.
  • Office administration such as ordering stationery and loaning equipment to ākonga.
  • Attending team meetings and professional development. 
Ideally, applicants will be learner-centred and enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, flexible and responsive learning environment. They will demonstrate empathy, adaptability and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, alongside sound basic computer skills.

 

An understanding of, and respect for te ao Māori and tikanga Māori is highly valued, including the ability to engage positively with ākonga and whānau. Confidence in speaking and understanding te re Māori would be advantageous.

Previous experience working with young people or in a community support role is also desirable.

This is a fixed term, part time position (30 hours per week) for 2026.

Depending on qualifications, skills and experience, we have this role banded at Grade D of the Teacher Aide  Work Matrix in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.
